RunChoice is a local-first running rewards app with private cloud restore for signed-in accounts, product analytics, diagnostics, subscriptions, maps, and notifications.
RunChoice legal
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how RunChoice collects, uses, stores, shares, and otherwise processes information when you use the RunChoice app, website, and related services. RunChoice does not sell your personal information.
We do not sell your personal information and never use it for advertising. We share data only with the service providers that help us run RunChoice — analytics, infrastructure, payment, and reward-shipping vendors — and as the law requires.
You can export local data, delete your account, manage device permissions, unsubscribe from marketing, and request privacy rights or opt-outs by email. In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, see Section 10.
1. Scope and Who We Are
"RunChoice," "we," "us," and "our" mean RunChoice LLC, the operator of the RunChoice app and website, and the data controller responsible for the information described in this Policy. You can reach us at:
RunChoice LLC
support@runchoice.app
A postal address for legal notice is available on request by
email.
This Policy applies to RunChoice mobile apps, web experiences, emails, support, promotions, subscriptions, rewards, analytics, diagnostics, and any other service that links to this Policy.
RunChoice is a consumer fitness and rewards service. We are not a doctor, health plan, health care clearinghouse, or emergency service. The app is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
2. Information We Collect
The exact information depends on how you use RunChoice, your device settings, and your account choices. We may collect:
- Account and profile information: the account identifier we assign you, email address, authentication provider, display name, username, avatar, email verification state, and linked sign-in providers.
- Running and fitness information: run dates and times, distance, duration, pace, route samples, split rows, pauses, speed, altitude, accuracy, steps, cadence, streak state, goals, achievements, shoes, notes, reward ledger, coin balance, and cosmetic inventory.
- Precise location: GPS latitude/longitude and related sensor data collected during active run tracking, plus location search inputs and optional home location labels used for profile personalization.
- Purchases and subscriptions: RunChoice+ plan, subscription state, entitlement status, App Store receipt data processed by our subscription-management provider, purchase attempts, restores, and related events.
- Analytics and usage: app screens, feature interactions, onboarding steps, run lifecycle events, paywall events, purchase funnel events, device model, operating system, app version, country, language, session information, and pseudonymous user properties such as premium tier, runner level, streak length, and run count.
- Device and diagnostics: per-install diagnostic id, platform, app version, build number, boot/error logs, limited stack traces, push notification tokens, notification preferences, and performance information.
- Communications: support emails, password reset and verification requests, transactional email records, marketing preferences, push notification settings, and responses to surveys or promotions.
- User content: avatar images selected by you, profile bio, run notes, and any feedback, screenshots, messages, or files you provide to us.
-
Marketing link clicks: when you follow a
RunChoice short link (a
runchoice.app/<name>address we post on social media), we record the click: the country your request came from, device type, operating system, browser, referring site, campaign tags in the link, and language. We do not set cookies for this. Your IP address is used to derive the country and to count unique visitors, then stored only as a salted one-way hash plus a truncated network prefix — never in full. These records are not linked to your RunChoice account.
Some information is stored locally on your device. Signed-in users also receive a private cloud restore copy so reinstalling the app does not erase important history, streaks, coins, inventory, gear, or settings.
3. How We Use Information
We may use information for the following purposes:
- Provide, personalize, maintain, and improve RunChoice.
- Track runs, show maps, calculate pace, splits, goals, streaks, coins, rewards, and premium insights.
- Create and restore private cloud backups for signed-in accounts.
- Authenticate users, prevent account abuse, send verification, password reset, support, security, and account-deletion emails.
- Process subscriptions, validate entitlements, provide customer support, and prevent fraud.
- Send local, push, transactional, product, and marketing messages according to your settings and legal requirements.
- Measure product performance, understand usage, test features, debug errors, protect security, and enforce our Terms.
- Build analytics, models, insights, benchmarks, segments, aggregated data, and de-identified data that help us understand and improve the product.
- Market RunChoice and measure our own campaigns using aggregated and de-identified data. We do not build advertising profiles about you and do not advertise to you on other companies' apps or websites.
- Ship and support monthly physical rewards you claim.
- Share data with the service providers described in this Policy, as allowed by law. We do not sell your personal information.
- Comply with law, legal process, safety requests, and our contractual obligations.
5. US State Privacy Notice

6. Analytics and Diagnostics
RunChoice uses a first-party product-analytics service, initialized when the app starts. The current event taxonomy includes account, onboarding, permission, run, streak, goal, share, paywall, purchase, cosmetic, notification, and screen-view events. Analytics may include pseudonymous user id, premium tier, runner level, streak length, total run count, app version, device model, operating system, country, language, and usage events.
We also use diagnostics to debug reliability and app crashes, especially TestFlight and device-specific issues. Diagnostic logs may include app version, build number, platform, per-install device id, error messages, stack traces, and limited structured context. Diagnostics are separate from product analytics.
Product analytics is required for RunChoice to operate and improve the app, and is collected for every user by default. It is not optional and there is no in-app setting to disable it. Operational, security, fraud, payment, and diagnostics processing likewise continue regardless of any marketing communication choices you make.
7. Categories of Service Providers
RunChoice relies on specialist providers to deliver parts of the service. They process personal data only on our documented instructions, under contract, and only for the purpose shown below. Their own processing is additionally governed by their terms and privacy notices.
We describe our providers by category and purpose rather than by brand name, so this Policy stays accurate when we change a supplier. If you want to know the specific companies we currently use, ask us at support@runchoice.app and we will tell you.
| Category | What they do for us | Information involved |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud hosting and application infrastructure | Run our servers, databases, file storage, and website | Account data, cloud restore data, route detail files, and the data needed to operate the service. |
| Authentication and identity | Create and secure your sign-in, including optional two-step verification | Email address, account identifier, sign-in provider, and authentication events. |
| Analytics and diagnostics | Measure feature usage and diagnose crashes and errors | Pseudonymous usage events, device and app version, crash and error reports. |
| Subscription and entitlement management | Validate purchase receipts and keep RunChoice+ in sync across your devices | Account identifier, purchase receipt, subscription state, purchase events. |
| Mapping and geocoding | Render maps and turn a typed place name into a location | Map requests, map-view context, and location searches you type. |
| Push notification delivery | Deliver notifications you have enabled | Notification token and message content. |
| Transactional email | Send verification, password reset, welcome, and deletion emails | Email address and the content of that message. |
| Address validation, shipping, and fulfillment | Check and standardize a claim address, then ship a reward | Name, shipping address, and contact details you submit with a reward claim. |
| App distribution and payments | Distribute the app and process purchases, refunds, and renewals | Handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. RunChoice never receives your payment card details. |
| Share destinations you choose | Receive a file only when you actively send it | Run cards, exports, or other files you choose to share outside RunChoice. |
8. Retention, Export, and Deletion
We keep information for as long as needed to provide RunChoice, operate subscriptions and rewards, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, enforce agreements, and support legitimate business purposes.
- Local data: Activity history, route details, map snapshot paths, settings, and exports can live on your device until you delete the app, clear local data, or complete account deletion flows.
- Cloud restore copy: Signed-in accounts store restore-critical data in our cloud database and route-detail files in cloud object storage until account deletion or a longer period required or permitted by law.
- Account deletion: The current app deletes the account and triggers server-side cleanup designed to remove the user's stored records, release the username claim, and delete Storage objects under that user id.
- Export: The Data & Privacy screen can create a local zip export of account data. The export stays on your device unless you choose to save or share it.
- Backups, logs, and partners: Residual copies may remain in backups, security logs, analytics systems, partner records, or legally required records for limited periods. Where required, we will forward deletion or opt-out requests to service providers and relevant partners.
9. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, port, restrict, object to, or appeal certain data processing, and to limit use and disclosure of sensitive personal information. Because RunChoice does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no sale or ad-sharing to opt out of — but we will honor any applicable request you send us.
To make a request, email support@runchoice.app. Please include the email address tied to your RunChoice account and the right you want to exercise. We may need to verify your identity before completing access, correction, deletion, portability, or similar requests. Authorized agents may contact us the same way.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights. Some requests may limit our ability to provide features that depend on the data involved, such as cloud restore, maps, rewards, subscriptions, or personalized insights.
Device controls
You can manage location, motion, notification, camera, and photo permissions through iOS or your device settings. Disabling required permissions may prevent core RunChoice features from working.
Marketing choices
Product updates are designed to be opt-in in the app. You can also unsubscribe or email support if you no longer want marketing communications. Transactional and security messages may still be sent.
10. EEA, UK, and Swiss Privacy Rights
This section applies if you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland. It supplements the rest of this Policy and prevails over anything inconsistent with it.
Controller and representative
RunChoice LLC is the controller of your personal data. Our contact details are in Section 1.
RunChoice is a small independent developer based in the United States. We are in the process of appointing representatives in the European Union and the United Kingdom under Article 27 GDPR and Article 27 UK GDPR, and we will name them here once appointed. In the meantime, and at any time afterwards, you can reach us directly about any data-protection matter at support@runchoice.app, and we will handle your request under this Section.
Legal bases for processing
We rely on the following legal bases under Article 6(1) GDPR:
| What we do | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Create and operate your account; track runs; calculate streaks, coins, and goals; provide cloud restore; deliver purchased RunChoice+ features; ship a reward you claim | Performance of a contract — Article 6(1)(b) |
| Process precise location, motion, and fitness data to record a run | Your explicit consent, given through the iOS permission prompts — Article 6(1)(a) and Article 9(2)(a). You can withdraw it at any time in iOS Settings; core run tracking then stops working. |
| First-party product analytics, diagnostics, crash and error reporting, anti-abuse and anti-fraud checks, service security | Our legitimate interests in keeping RunChoice working, safe, and improving — Article 6(1)(f). You may object at any time (see below). |
| Send marketing or product-update emails | Your consent — Article 6(1)(a) — withdrawable by unsubscribing |
| Keep transaction, tax, and dispute records; respond to lawful requests | Compliance with a legal obligation — Article 6(1)(c) |
Your rights
You have the right to access your personal data; to have it corrected; to have it erased; to restrict or object to processing (including profiling and, as above, analytics); to data portability; and to withdraw any consent you have given, without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal. To exercise any of these, email support@runchoice.app. We respond within one month and may extend by two further months for complex requests, telling you if we do. Exercising these rights is free unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.
Two of these you can exercise immediately in the app, without contacting us: Profile → Data & privacy → Export my data produces a portable archive, and Profile → Advanced → Delete account erases your account and triggers server-side deletion of your cloud data.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the EEA it is the authority for your country, listed at edpb.europa.eu. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.
International transfers
RunChoice is operated from the United States, and our processors — — cloud hosting, analytics, subscription, mapping, and email providers — process data in the United States and elsewhere. Where we transfer personal data out of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum or Swiss equivalent where applicable), together with the transfer safeguards our processors publish. You can request a copy of the relevant safeguards by email.
Automated decision-making
We do not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you by automated means alone. Reward eligibility is computed automatically from your run data, but a claim that is flagged is reviewed by a person before it is denied, and you can contact support to have any decision reviewed.
Retention
We keep account and run data for as long as your account exists, and delete it on account deletion subject to the residual copies described in Section 8. Diagnostic logs expire automatically after about 60 days. Records we must keep for tax, accounting, or dispute purposes are retained for the period the relevant law requires.
Reward availability
RunChoice+ is sold worldwide, but the monthly physical reward ships only within the continental United States and D.C. Subscribers outside that service area receive the digital RunChoice+ features and are told this before purchase.
11. Children
RunChoice is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information to RunChoice, contact us and we will take appropriate action.
We do not sell anyone's personal information, including minors'. If you are 13 to 17, use RunChoice only with permission from a parent or legal guardian.
12. Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, including authenticated access control, owner-scoped database and file permissions, strictly validated data schemas, encryption in transit, and server-side deletion cleanup. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. International Transfers
RunChoice is operated from the United States and uses global cloud service providers. Your information may be processed in the United States and other countries that may have privacy laws different from those where you live. If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, see Section 10 for the safeguards we apply to those transfers.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy at any time as RunChoice changes, including when we add new analytics, reward, subscription, or product features. The current version will always be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we will provide notice as required by law, which may include in-app notice or email. One thing will not change: RunChoice does not sell your personal information.
15. Contact
Privacy questions, opt-outs, access requests, deletion requests, appeals, and other legal notices can be sent to support@runchoice.app, which is the fastest way to reach us and is monitored.
RunChoice LLC is a United States limited liability company. If you need to serve a notice by post, email us and we will provide a postal address.
